The Unconditioned Mind
To talk about the unconditioned mind, let’s first talk about what the conditioned mind is:
Attached to the past
Apprehensive about an idea that doesn’t fit its view of the world
Conceived judgements of everything it knows
Cannot imagine anything new
Only sees what it knows
Enjoys being right
Attached to grievances
Cannot forgive (or forget)
Filled with stories, habits and patterns
Biggest job is to sustain its identity
When you walk into a room with a conditioned mind, there will be expectations and judgements that already exist without any external cues.
Whereas, walking in with an unconditioned mind, you experience (see, hear, smell, taste and touch) with a new lens. Unhindered by preconceptions that could limit the experience.
The mind is designed to store information so we cannot suddenly change its design. But, what we could do is start walking into rooms with presence to allow more of an unconditioned mind.
Meditation to help you:
Connect to the present moment
Stay there to allow yourself to move into a state of being (vs thinking & doing)
Practice bringing the presence into “different rooms”
Journal prompts to note instances where you’ve successfully brought presence into everyday life
